According to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Data Privacy Day is an international holiday celebrated in USA, Canada and 27 more countries in Europe. It occurs every January 28 to raise awareness and promote data privacy education.
On January 26, 2009, the United States House of Representatives passed House Resolution HR 31 by an impressive, unanimous vote of 402–0, declaring January 28 National Data Privacy Day.

Data Privacy Day’s educational initiative originally stemmed from safety concerns and focused on raising awareness among teens and young adults. Protecting the privacy of their personal information is always important, but today, with a full generation grown with online presence in their lives, social networking is of special concern, now including communities, families, business consumers and commercial entities. In addition to its educational initiative, Data Privacy Day promotes the activities that support development of technology tools that help individual control over personally identifiable information. Let’s not forget about compliance with privacy laws and regulations  (a HIPAA compliance is a popular subject, for example). Advancing data protection and privacy is of interest to everyone, end-users and solution providers alike; collaboration among various government agencies, industry leaders, academia figures, nonprofit institutions, privacy professionals and others.
